Jim’s piping history is highly regarded in the piping world, he has won the Gold medal piobaireachd at the Argyllshire Gathering, had multiple Gold medals placings at the Northern Meeting, the A grade MSR at both Oban and Inverness, the Former Winners MSR at Inverness and Oban, the Donald Macdonald Piobaireachd at Skye, and more recently, the Gold Medal and Clasp at the RU Brown contest in Adelaide.

Jim’s Pipe band history is highly notable as well. He was the Pipe Major of the Kinglassie and District Pipe band, Dysart and Dundonald Pipe band, founder and Pipe Major of the Fife Police pipe band, and as mentioned above, Pipe Major of the Western Australia Police pipe band.

Jamie Hawke started piping at the age of nine learning from his father Richard in Christchurch, New Zealand. Jamie was promoted to New Zealand ‘A Grade’ as a 17 year old in 2006 and over this past 20 years has been a regular prize-winner at the highest grade in both solos and pipe bands.

Jamie’s most notable solo achievements include – NZ Silver Chanter MSR (2007), NZ Silver Chanter Former Winners Clasp MMSSRR (2011), NZ Gold Medal Piobaireachd (2008), NZ Gold Medal Piobaireachd Former Winners Clasp (2015), Colin Craig Claidhmor Targe Piobaireachd (2013), R.U Brown Gold Medal (2013), VPA Australian Gold Medal (2022), Maclean Gathering Gold Medal (2026)

Jamie has been a member of Canterbury Caledonian Pipe Band since 2010, winning 12 of the last 14 Grade 1 New Zealand Championships titles. 5 of these consecutive Championship titles were as Pipe Major in which he retired from this position in 2025.
